US addiction to sanctions knows no bounds

TEHRAN, Aug. 02 (MNA) – In reponse to recent US move to impose sanctions against two Turkish ministers, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif highlighted that US “addiction to sanctions knows no bounds.”

In a Thursday post on his Twitter account, Zarif said that these sanctions are a demonstration of US policy of pressure and extortion.

“US’ unlawful sanctions against two Turkish ministers - from an allied country - illustrates not just US administration's policy of pressure and extortion in lieu of statecraft, but that its addiction to sanctions knows no bounds,” he wrote.

The US imposed sanctions on two Turkish ministers over the continued detention of an American pastor who President Donald Trump has said should be released, Bloomberg quoted White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders as saying on Wednesday. The sanctions target Turkey’s Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gul and Minister of Interior Suleyman Soylu.

Brunson, American pastor, was arrested in September 2016, in the aftermath of the July 15, 2016 coup attempt in Turkey that was carried out by the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ). He is accused of links to FETÖ as well as the PKK terrorist group.

Speaking to reporters in Ankara, Erdoğan said on Wednesday that Turkey would not make compromises regarding the independence of the judiciary, and said the remarks of the "evangelist, zionist mentality" in the United States was unacceptable, according to Daily Sabah.
